We here at Coventry will be missing out on Bonnaroo this year. To view our multi-media coverage of last year's event check out:
Videos:
Bonnaroo: Part 1
Bonnaroo: Part 2

Pics:
Pauly's Bonnaroo Photo Gallery

Recaps & Setlists:
Bonnaroo Part I: Thursday Arrival
Bonnaroo Part II: Fanfuckingtastic Friday
Bonnaroo Part III: Superlicious Saturday
Bonnaroo Part IV: Sunday Finale
Sadly, both Change100 and I will be in Las Vegas covering the World Series of Poker for Poker News. Molly has to teach summer school and The Joker took a new job in Denver. We'll miss out on The Police reunion and are pretty bummed about that. Although we got to see Langerado... it's still not like the fun and epic times we had last June at Bonnaroo.

By the way, the schedule for 2007 Bonnaroo has been announced. Click here to check out the schedule.

MMW Tour Dates and News

Martin, Wood & Medeski at Langerado

Medeski, Martin, and Wood are back on tour this summer playing by themselves, with John Scofield, and a few other side projects such as The Wood Brothers, The Johns (John Medeski & John Scofield), and MAGO (Billy Martin & John Medeski). MAGO will be performing at Bonnaroo on Friday June 15th.

MMW will be playing more side projects than shows this summer with the original trio.
MMW Trio Tour Dates:
5.24.07 Richmond, VA @ Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
5.25.07 Clarks Grove, MN @ Festi De Bella Luna
5.26.07 Chillicothe, IL @ Summer Camp - LATE NIGHT SHOW

6.10.07 Lawrence, KS @ Wakarusa
8.17.07 Ridgefield, CT @ Ridgefield Playhouse
8.18.07 Lowell, MA @ Lowell Summer Music Series

MSMW recently toured Tokyo and the shows have been sizzling. The fusion of John Scofield's guitar is a delicious mix with MMW.

In April, Out Louder was released in Japan and Europe. There's a bonus disc that features live cyts from a gig at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City. They were recorded in November 2006 by David Kent. They are crisp and sound amazing.

I wish I didn't have to work in Las Vegas this summer because I'd love to hit the road and see several different Jazz Festivals all over Europe with MSMW head lining.
Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood Summer Schedule:
6.27.07 Toronto, Ontario @ Toronto Jazz Festival
6.28.07 Montreal, Quebec @ Montreal Jazz Festival
7.2.07 Karlsrule, Germany @ Tollhaus

The Johns: John Medeski & John Scofield

After MSMW plays several of their European gigs in July, John Medeski will continue on a tour of Europe with John Scofield for another week of shows in Germany, Spain, Sweden, Finland, and Norway. They will be adding drummer Adam Deitch to two Colorado shows in August. Don't miss The Johns.

7.21.07 Stockholm, Sweden @ Fasching
7.22.07 Pori, Finland @ Pori Jazz Festival

8.1.07 Boulder, CO @ Boulder Theatre (w/ Adam Deitch)
8.3.07 Telluride, CO @ Telluride Jazz Festival (w/ Adam Deitch

The Wood Brothers are one of my favorite duos. The first time I caught them was in NYC at Roseland Ballroom when they opened up for Trey Anastasio Band. We caught their performance at Bonnaroo last year and they did not dissapoint. The brothers are working on a new album and will be playing their new tunes this summer along with some old favorites.

Jordin Sparks Wins American Idol

17-year old Jordin Sparks of Glendale, AZ won the sixth edition of American Idol Wednesday night, edging out beat-boxer Blake Lewis, 25. For her win, Sparks receives a management contract with 19 Entertainment as well as a recording contract with Sony BMG. She also snagged a red Ford Mustang, I suppose as a token of gratitude for shooting all those retarded music video-style ads for the auto giant (and Idol uber-sponsor) along with her fellow contestants.

Idol's season finale also marked the first time that the program has been granted use of the Beatles' catalog. The two-hour extravaganza featured a series of Beatles hits performed by four of the show's previous winners including Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood, and Ruben Studdard.

You can view the Beatles medley below, which includes five covers off of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"-- the title song (Clarkson), " "A Day in the Life" (Hicks), "She's Leaving Home" (Underwood), and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds > A Little Help from My Friends" (Studdard, joined by this season's Top 10).

The Whitney Museum Goes Hippie

This blurb on Gothamist made me chuckle: The Whitney Goes Hippie.

The Whitney Museum in New York City is celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Summer of Love with an exhibition called Summer of Love: Art of the Psychedelic Era which includes underground mags, light shows, paintings, sculptures, album covers, posters, and concert films from 1965. If you are NYC, check it out. It opened today and runs through September 16th.

The band recently played the legendary Festival of the Desert in Essakane, Mali, which happens to be the most remote music festival in the world.

Here's what I got in a press release:
Since forming in early 2005, the magnetic instrumental quintet has been credited with bridging the gap between West African and American music unlike any group before them, winning a diverse and devoted following and international acclaim from the New York Times, Global Rhythm, Relix, fRoots, NPR and more. Members of the group developed their unique sound over the course of numerous extended trips to Mali, Guinea, and Ivory Coast, where they immersed themselves in the local culture and studied and performed with luminaries such as Lamine Soumano, Vieux Kante, Madou Dembele and Koungbanan Conde.
Here's the band's official website and check out their myspace page.

Trey to Play 10K Lakes Festival

They announced the lineup and schedule of the 10,000 Lakes Festival in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on Wednesday, July 18 through Saturday, July 21. Looks like Trey Anastasio Band will be the closing act on the main stage on Saturday, July 21. As far as I know, that's the only gig on Trey's schedule after he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of pharmies.

Trey's Bender: Spun Like an Antelope

I got a tip on this gem: Trey's Bender: "And the Light Shines On, You know we all Ride On." The author is Stan Gable's The Ghosts of Wayne Fontes blog. Good shit.

Trey's a stone cold junkie. He's one of my heros, but he blew it. He could have been gearing up for a summer tour but instead he fucked the pooch on this one.

Page McConnell: Not So Strange Design
