Phish Halloween: The Case for Thriller

Thriller has been thrown around as a strong, if not obvious choice for the Halloween set at Festival 8 for months now. My biggest problem with the idea of Phish covering Thriller is that only Michael Jackson can sing like Michael Jackson.

But...there could be another possibilty. What if Trey got his guitar to sing like MJ? Check out this video from the GRAB tour and maybe you will hear what I mean:


What do you think? Will we be dancing to some MJ at 8?

i was at that show! place went nuts when they busted into that "billie jean" jam.

I just got this santana show from 4-19-88 where carlos tears billie jean a new one. Carlos ripped it. he fucking destroyed it! absolute shred fest style.

actually, my bad. Santana did an instrumental "smooth criminal"

I was getting my MJ songs confused.

Santana rips the fatty "smooth criminals"

and GRAB rips the heady "Billy Jeans"

hearing carlos tear "smooth criminal" a new one was both funny and mindblowing at the same time. I can just see the look on the bass player's face as carlos destroys it. I was actually surprised how much 88 santana shredding sounds like trey, or vice a versa. 4-19-88 sunrise, fl was the show. i think it's widely circulated. check it out!

IF, and that's a big IF, they play MJ...it's gotta be Off The Wall.

I just don't see it happening...it's not an album you can just throw on anytime of the day...

...and I think that's what Phish is gearing towards...
