Phish 7/12/13 Jones Beach: Setlist and Recap

Official poster by Delicious Design League

Tour moved to Long Island for a one-night stand at Jones Beach. The weather has always been a gamble at these shows (the Joker and I survived a monsoon in 2009), and tonight's weather is sketchy.

Any rogue streams can be found at HoodStreams.com.

Set 1: Chalkdust, Cars Trucks Buses, Ocelot, My Sweet One, Ocean, Water in the Sky, Sloth, Beauty of a Broken Heart, Sugar Shack, 46 Days, Backwards > Reba, Bowie

Couch Tour Recap: Jones Beach Sharknados
By Pauly

Phans braved the elements for another bad weather show this tour (rainy SPAC and flooded Toronto). I was rocking out on couch tour (first set was a crisp stream courtesy of Taper420, but second set was stop/go). Friends at the show were bumming about the rain, but they gutted it out despite the cluterfuck to get inside. They were rewarded with a Rock and Roll jam that clocked in at 19+ mins.

I was watching the Twins/Yanksgame, which went into a rain delay about 1/3 thru Phish's first set. Pro baseball players sit it out when it pours, but the Phish show must go on!

Another strong, long first set (13-songs in almost 95-minutes) peppered with greatest hits. The band snuck in a couple of rain songs like A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing and Water in the Sky. Page spoke to the crowd a couple of times and hoped the music could keep everyone warm. Mini-jams of note occurred in Ocelot, Ocean ad 46 Days. That Sugar Shack was meh at best. It should get demoted to the minors (Mike Gordon Band tour) and they should give Yarmouth Road a little more playing time. Thought Reba would end the set but they tacked on Bowie. Ended the set on a strong note.

Set 2 kicked off with Velvet Underground's Rock and Roll. Heard crowd shouting "All right!" along with Leo. The outro was a monstrous sharknado jam that attemtped to give last year's Long Beach R-n-R Beiber-jam orgy a run for its money. I told my bud Girtz to expect jammy goodness in the second sets. They delivered with a 2003-era oxy-faded jam. Quickie 2001. The stream crapped out at the end of Tweezer jam, but not before Page busted out the voice box. Zero ended a rather unusual short set.

"This song is about redemption," said Page about the Monkey encore. I expected a formulaic "Loving Cup > Tweeprise" encore. Got a Monkey-Prise instead. Plenty of banter with Monkey. Seemed like the boys were having fun.

Jones Beach fit the formula for this summer... long first set with greatest hits and a second frame with jamiliciousness. Kudos to the super phans who roughed the elements to see the Phish. The circus migrates to Maryland for a double dip at MPP.

FYI... download 7/12/13 Jones Beach at LivePhish.com.

david A, when someone is kind enough to post a link they will do so. Be patient, no need to ask for it. If you need it sooner, go to LP for a download.

Thanks.

Thanks Mario, people on here have been very kind to do what they do and I very much appreciate it. Younger fans don't realize that it used to take months to get your hands on an AUD tape back in the day.

Oh... riversideroo,,, 30-odd years ago, many an evening I spent hand coloring J-cards for the Maxell XLII 90s that were dubbing in REALTIME the Grateful Dead concerts of many weeks before. "Hey these are only 2nd gen tapes! That means MINE will be only 3rd gen!"
Here is a link to the real cover art,
