Today in Phishtory: 9/9/00 Albany, NY

Eight years ago, it was a magical night with special guests Tom Marshall and Michael Ray. And I had floor seats with my buddy Gil.
Phish 9/9/00 Pepsi Arena, Albany, New York

Set 1: Possum, My Friend My Friend > Gumbo > Maze, Boogie On Reggae Woman, Roggae, Guyute, Run Like an Antelope*

Set 2: Gotta Jibboo > The Curtain > Sand ^ > Makisupa Policeman^, Cars Trucks Buses^ > Funky Bitch^, Cavern

E: Harry Hood^

*with Tom Marshall uttering "Marco Esquandolas"
^With Michael Ray on trumpet.
I had a rough start to the show. A huge female cop with a mullet at the entrance seized my glass bowl! Man, what a bummer. That would have never happened when the Dead played there back in the days when it was called Knickerbocker Arena. Luckily she didn't take my stash. Alas, I was on a search for rolling papers or borrowing other bowls throughout the show.

Gil and I had floor seats. He was usually my partner in crime for Albany shows and we'd drive up from New York City. I absolutely dug the first set which included all songs that I wanted to hear including a sizzling Possum opener. Followed up by My Friend > Gumbo > Maze sandwich. Tom Marshall came out on stage for Antelope and got to say "Marco Esquandolas!"

Just when I thought the boys couldn't top the first set, they went out and smoked the hell out of the Pepsi Center. New Orleans trumpet player Michael Ray (from the Cosmic Crewe) joined the gang for five songs. Sand was the highlight of the show.

Wish I had more time to write about this epic show... alas, I'm out of time and have to go back to work!

Anyway, listen to the show for yourself...
