Today in Phishtory: 11.17.97 Denver

If there was one Phish show that I could go back in time and attend, this would be the show.

11.17.97 is widely considered one of the top 5 Phish shows of all time, and many consider this show to have "best-of" versions of Tweezer, Reba, Ghost, Down w/ Disease, and Johnny B. Goode.
11/17/97 McNichols Arena, Denver, CO
Set I: Tweezer, Reba, Train Song, Ghost, Fire
Set II: Down With Disease> Oblivious Fool> Johnny B Goode> Space Jam> Jesus Just Left Chicago, When the Circus Comes to Town, You Enjoy Myself
Encore: Character Zero
You can download and listen to an audience recording of the show here. This is also an official LivePhish release and you can buy it here. You can also read some old first hand accounts from Phans here.

As they say, set 1 is the tits. I listen to the funky Tweezer and Ghost over and over again. I love the start/stop outro of the Tweezer. The Reba jam is funky, and the Ghost is better than most composed music out there today. The second set shows the Phish segueing prowess.

10 years later, McNichols Arena has been torn down in Denver, Gas costs $2.99, and most music fans are looking forward to seeing Tool at the Pepsi Center next week before Thanksgiving.
