Today in Phishtory: 11.21.98 Hampton, VA

Nine years ago, Phish performed at Hampton Colesium and recorded what would end up being a part of their epic Live Phish series called Hampton Comes Alive.
Phish, 11/21/98 Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, VA

Set I: Wilson> Big Black Furry Creature from Mars, Lawn Boy, The Divided Sky, Cry Baby Cry, Boogie On Reggae Woman> NICU, Dogs Stole Things, Nellie Kane, Foam, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Guyute, Bold as Love

The kids call 1997 the Year of the Funk. 1998 might have been the Year of the Cover Song. This show is a perfect example of Phish's amazing and uncanny ability to play a cover and put their spin on it. The first set included covers from the Beatles Cry Baby Cry to Stevie Wonder's Boogie On Reggae Woman to a classic country tune Nellie Kane and they closed with Jimi Hendrix's Bold As Love. The boys kicked off the second set with a hysterical homage to the Beastie Boys with Sabotage and ended the show with Tubthumping by British one hit wonders... Chumbawamba.

I'll have to dig through my CD collection and play this non-stop today.
