Genius or Junkie?

My friends in Hollywood are a buzz with Joaquin Phoenix's appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. Some think it was he method acting since he's working on a documentary with Casey Affleck about Phoenix's foray into becoming a hip hop act. Others think that Phoeenix was not acting and just shitfaced.
