I saw one of the best Phish shows I had ever seen last night. I've caught 135 shows and 12.30.03 Miami is one of the Top 10 Phish shows... all time! Even Zobo agreed when he said "Top 4 American shows I've seen!"OK, after several years of reflection, I think I over-estimated the quality of the show. I said it was a Top 10 all time... and it's definitely in the Top 20 all time that I have seen, just not the Top 10. I was shit talking and jacked up on several heady rolls at the time of the original publication. Suffice to say, I'm totally sober now and have listened to 12.30.03 many many many times since then.
Why was last night magical and special? George Clinton, the funkmaster himself, joined the fracas and took over the show for 30 minutes when he came out with the rest of Parliament Funkadelic. Quite and amazing performance and a sincere homage to Captain Funk himself.
Trey was smoking. Page was completely on. Fishman was hanging tough. And Mike was breaking out the heavy spacy-cow-funk all night. Cities? Scent of a Mule? Makisupa? L.A. Woman? Tube!!
Zobo, sititng in the sixth row, called second set Tube opener and although they never finished it, I was still loving life. NICU in the first set was sweet. And 2001 and Down with Disease were some of the better version in the post-hiatus era. I had an awful seat up in Section 412, but it sounded great and we had a cool section. Bruce arrived earlier in the day and last night was his first show this run. My buddy Byron, the Ragin' Cajun' from Louisana was up there with us in Sec 412. We saw a lot of Galactic shows in New Orleans and Texas together. Ironically, he called LA Woman before the show started. Japhans Emi and Junko were behind the stage also up in the 400 level. I rescued them and brought them to our section and they had a much better time in the second set!
12.29.97 Madison Square Garden, New York, NYIn 1997, Phish played a three show run at MSG and 12.29.97 was the first night. I went with Senor and his brother and we got super drunk before the show. I had pretty good seats in the 100 level and a couple of hits of liquid acid on sugar cubes that I had smuggled into NYC from Seattle.
Set I: NICU, Golgi Apparatus, Crossroads, Cars Trucks Buses, Train Song, Theme from the Bottom, Fluffhead, Dirt, Antelope
Set II: Down With Disease, David Bowie, Possum > I Can't Turn You Loose (Blues Brothers Theme) > Possum, Tube, You Enjoy Myself
Encore: Good Times Bad Times

12.29.98 Madison Square Garden, New York, NYLike I wrote yesterday, the 1998 shows were some of the best I had ever attended. After a hot start the night before, the boys continued their momentum.
Set I: Rock and Roll > Funky Bitch, Punch You in the Eye > Horn, Ginseng Sullivan, Split Open and Melt, Brian and Robert, Guyute, My Soul, Freebird
Set II: Free, Limb By Limb > 2001, Boogie On Reggae Woman, You Enjoy Myself

12.29.03 American Airlines Arena, Miami, FLI flew down to Miami for all four shows of their holiday run. 12.29.03 was their second night. On my regular blog, Tao of Pauly, I had written... The second wave of Phish hit me... and I left with a wide grin and seeing one of the best sets of Phish in a long time!!
Set I: Piper, Foam, Anything But Me, Limb By Limb, Wolfman's Brother, Poor Heart, Cavern
Set II: Rock and Roll > Twist > Boogie On Reggae Woman > Ghost > Free, The Divided Sky, Good Times Bad Times

Set I: Axilla, Stash, Farmhouse, Taste, Sleep, Albuquerque, Driver, Tube, Golgi Apparatus, Good Times Bad Times
Set II: Carini > Wolfman's Brother, Birds of a Feather, When the Circus Comes to Town, Quinn the Eskimo > David Bowie

12.14.95 Broome County Arena, Binghamton, NYTwelve tears ago today, Phish played another epic show. This one was captured on their Live Phish series. Tight set. Phish from 1995 had a distinct hard-rocking and energetic sound. 1995 is my second favorite year besides the Year of the Funk. In the summer of 95, the torch had gotten passed to them when Jerry Garcia died. The boys stepped up with some magnificent playing as they made their mark.
Set I: Suzy Greenberg, Llama, Foam, Makisupa Policeman, Split Open and Melt, Tela, The Fog That Surrounds, My Sweet One, Frankenstein
Set II: The Curtain, Tweezer > Timber > Tweezer, Keyboard Army, Halley's Comet > NICU > Slave to the Traffic Light
Encore: Bold as Love
Built on 5 acres of fruit trees, hummingbird gardens, and surrounded by rain forest covered mountains and rolling green fields, the venue is just minutes from black sand beaches. Proceeds from this event will benefit Garabito Schools Environmental Education via The Central Pacific Chamber of Commerce.Should be an interesting show in another mixture of two of my favorite bands... Phish and the Dead. Will Page be playing with Mickey Hart next? Or how about Bob Weir and Fishman?
Tickets are being offered through Mike's online ticketing site. Tickets are also on sale at the The Central Pacific Chamber of Commerce in Jaco, Costa Rica. For more information, please call (506) 643-2211 or (506) 643-2195 or visit the Chamber's website. Additional tickets will be available on the day of the show at Docelunas. It is recommended that you purchase tickets in advance.
