GROWN SO UGLY music blog and Mr. Michael Hurley

I came across this sweet music blog while searching for albums by the folk musician Michael Hurley (see pic above). They describe their site as such:

A home for musical gems from the past fifty years, decidedly biased in favor of acoustic instrumentation. From the easily accessible to the challenging listen, quality is the sole requirement for our sharity. We encourage community participation.

Last month, I didn't know squadush about Michael Hurley - just that he had a song on the Deadwood soundtrack. Interesting tidbits from wiki and his own website: he's 66, started making albums in 65', has 21 albums, both the Violent Femmes and Cat Power have covered his songs and he creates the quirky cover art for his albums. Have Moicy seems to be his most highly regarded album; I dunno, I'm still absorbing the few albums I've come across. The GROWN SO UGLY BLOG has quite a few blurbs about him and seems to be great at reposting any uploads they've done in the past. If you're down for some great, simple American folk music check it out (link to GROWN SO UGLY posts about Michael Hurley). Also, though free music is great when checking out new music, I've read at a few different places that when you purchase albums through his website, you (can) get autographed copies.

*P.S. Two comments that are too good not to include in this post:

Michael Hurley is brilliant and crazy and a good friend of ours. For my money, his best record is "Long Journey," the original release that included "Hog of the Forsaken" (the song that ended two episodes of Deadwood). Have Moicy isn't a Hurley release proper (it also included a band made up of the Holy Modal Rounders and Jeffrey Frederick--RIP) but does include some of his best work, including the Slurf Song ("oh a little wishbone, I make a wish for a po-ta-to..."). Enjoy!
